When no prior plans have been made, the responsibility of funeral arrangements is usually left to family members. They are faced with a strange new responsibility which is overwhelming and confusing if unprepared, especially during a time of distress.
Saving Money
If you choose to pay in advance for your funeral, there are many different options to select from. Single and Multi-year payment plans are available. The State of Michigan requires that funeral homes place 100% of all pre-paid monies in to a third party account, such as a funeral insurance policy. The money gains interest while in the account. That interest offsets the inflation costs at the funeral home. When you plan and fund your funeral in advance, it is purchased at today's prices. Your family will not be responsible for additional costs, unless they add or change services and merchandise.
