HAMMOND, June (Elretta) – of Davison, age 81, passed away May 25, 2012 at Prestige Point, Grand Blanc. A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 PM Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Woodside Church, 1509 E. Court St., Flint; Rev. Kendall Brown officiating. Visitation will be 11 AM – 3 PM Wednesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. Burial will be in Fremont Cemetery, Mayville MI at 10 AM Thursday, May 31, 2012. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Woodside Church, Avalon Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.

June was born in Mayville, MI on June 13, 1930, daughter of the late Rudolph and Etta (Schultz) Frenzel. She grew up on a farm and never lost the lessons of hard work. June hired into AC Spark Plug in the 1950’s, retiring in 1988. She forged many lifelong friendships there. Her last outing was earlier this month at an annual luncheon at Holy Rosary that the “gals” attended for years. She married William R. Hammond in 1951. They raised their family in Davison, MI. June was a spirited participant in her children’s lives. She volunteered as a homeroom parent, Scout Co-leader and cheered loudly at sporting events. Fun family adventures were to be had with her good friend and family of Gloria Serrels. The birth of her grandchildren, Adrianne Cross and Owen Hammond led her into new adventures. She was affectionately known as Grandma June by the children of Pierce Elementary School and Woodside Church. She found great joy in taking care of others. She served coffee with a smile with her “honorary daughter”, Donna Poli at Woodside. Friends and family in need were gifted with her chicken noodle soup or mac-n-cheese. Mom enjoyed shopping, gardening and cooking. Special thanks to neighbors, Jeff and Sandy Courneya, Al and Leta Tiller for their love and assistance.

June cherished her family and friends. Family gatherings were frequent in honor of her beloved mother, Etta Frenzel. Sunday meals were a family affair with her sister and brother-in-law, Lucile and Steve Steele; nieces, Linda Anderson and Lois McDonald. Special friends include, Annabelle Schultz, Chris and Dorothy Monk and Nancy Frenzel.

June is survived by her daughter, Terri (Fred) Cross; son, Richard (Beth Sylander) Hammond; granddaughter, Annie; grandson, Owen; sister, Lucile Steele, brother, Howard (Peg) Frenzel. She was preceded in death by husband, Bill Hammond; brothers, Lavern and Clare Frenzel; brother-in-law, Steve Steele.
