Mary Lou Summerfield

SUMMERFIELD, Mary Lou – of Flint, age 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family November 28, 2011 at home. A Funeral Service will be held at 12 NOON on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Harold E. Constant, Pastor Jack Dowden and Pastor Steve Summerfield officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-8 p.m. on Thursday. Friday visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Mary Lou was born in Flint on November 10, 1935, daughter of the late Herbert and Etta (Jackson) Wilson. She married Charles Ijames on August 17, 1957. Charles preceded her in death on February 17, 1996. Mary Lou married Bob Summerfield on January 5, 2002 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was very active in Emmanuel Baptist and taught Sunday School for 42 years. Mary Lou had a very giving, soft and gentle spirit and loved doing things for others. She lived for her faith and her family. Mary Lou was very loved and will be greatly missed by all.

Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Bob Summerfield; her children, Gary (Terri) Ijames of Burton, Michael Ijames of Clio, William (fianceé, Jessica) Ijames of Higgins Lake and Lori (fiancé, James) Golden of Chapel Hill, NC; her grandchildren, Luke and Anthony Ijames, Amber and Alysha Muehlenbeck, Grant (Stephanie) Ijames, Charles Ijames, Chase Golden; great-granddaughter, Haylie; Bob’s children, Thomas (Louanne) Summerfield, Steven (Patti) Summerfield, Susan (Dale) Lumsden, Andrew (Laura) Summerfield, Robert L. (Kristie) Summerfield; many other grandchildren and loving family members; brother, Robert (Carol) Wilson; sisters, Jackie Essary, Dorothy (John) Bell and Vonnie Seidel. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Donna, Elaine and Agnes and, brother, Richard. Mary Lou’s family gives a special thank you to the staff members of McLaren, Briarwood, Heartland Hospice, Comfort Keepers and her caring nieces that helped so much. Those desiring may make contributions to Kindred Spirit, a special needs home, of Clio or Emmanuel Baptist Church.
